What size transformer do I need for 12V LED lights?

The LED strip installation we have has a total wattage of 144 W, to which we have to add a safety margin of 20-25%. So we will have to multiply this power by 1.2. Therefore, a transformer that can be used for this type of installation is a 200 W transformer with 12 V.

Do you need special transformer for 12V LED lights?

All LED light bulbs require a 'driver' (a special type of transformer) to work properly. Mains voltage LED light bulbs (such as GU10 and B22 bulbs) have the driver built in to the bulb. MR16 and other 12V bulbs use an external driver.

What is the maximum voltage for 12V LED lights?

We've shown that for a 12V LED strip, it can go from dark to overdriven in a narrow range between 10V and 12.8V. While it is possible to supply a voltage that is slightly different from the rated voltage, you will have to be careful and precise to ensure that you do not cause any damage to the LEDs.
