LED light strips have swiftly gained popularity as a decorative and accent lighting option. Because of its small size, excellent brightness, and low power consumption, LED strip lights are used in many aspects of lighting design. LED light strips are also quite adaptable; both homeowners and do-it-yourselfers utilise them. In addition to being simple to install, they can be tailored to precisely fit any area, be it behind the TV, under the stairway, along an outdoor path, or beneath your kitchen counter or cabinetry. However, not all tape lights are made equally.

How can one determine whether they are correctly installing LED strip lights when there are numerous lumen outputs, IP ratings, cut requirements, and voltages to take into account?

info-1-1

False Bending

LED strip lights have the ability to bend vertically up to a gentle 90-degree curve. If your installation involves any abrupt twists or corners, use sturdy solderless connectors to keep conductivity intact. Installing your strip lights inside an aluminium enclosure, or channel, will give your installation a modern, finished appearance. By keeping your lights running cooler, mounting channels will help protect your strip and increase their longevity.

Extrusions known as surface mount channels can be adhered to any surface using tape or mounting brackets. Light dispersion and a lovely final appearance are made possible by the cover. Shallow extrusions called recessed mount channels evenly distribute the light from the strip while hiding it. To get a flush appearance and make the light appear completely integrated into its surroundings, you can recess the channel into the wall, cabinet, or any other spot you want to install. The purpose of corner mount/angled extrusions is to enable the strip lamp to emit a fixed beam of light at a set beam angle.

Inaccurate Cutting

Only at specified cutting marks may LED strip lights be cut to size. Your light strips could get damaged if you trim them somewhere else. Additionally, a mitre saw should be used to cut covers and extrusions at the same time. To keep both you and the light strip safe when working on it, make sure the light strip is unplugged from the power source before attempting to cut it.

Locate the sections that are indicated for cutting; strips typically indicate where to cut with dashes and/or a scissor icon. Next, find the solder pads, which are exposed metal parts utilised for electrical connections. They are typically circular or rectangular in shape. Make a clean, straight cut in the specified area using utility knife or sharp scissors. To avoid damaging the light or making uneven cuts, stay away from dull instruments.

Certain LED strips are produced without any cut points and as a single, continuous strip. Usually, these strips are fixed in length and cannot be trimmed without impairing the lights' ability to function. The LED strip is probably not made to be cut if there aren't any obvious cut marks or solder pads spaced out at regular intervals. Still not sure? To determine where to cut your LED strip lights, consult the manufacturer's instructions.

Disregarding Particular IP Ratings

Products with an IP65 rating are water-resistant but not waterproof. Place them outside or in damp areas, but keep them at least five feet away from areas with high pressure washing or swimming pools. For damp environments, silicone is used to enclose IP65 outdoor rated strips. These strip lights are an excellent choice for lighting anything that is not completely submerged because they can tolerate water jets coming from any direction. They are ideal for a variety of applications, including patio lining, concrete inlays, channel lettering and signage inside, splash areas beneath counters, and more. The silicone coating is UV protected and does not break or become yellow. Only strip lights with an IP68 rating are safe to submerge in water.
