Can I Upgrade Dimmable downlights For Free?

Dimmable downlights are one of our most commonly asked queries. Downlights are a popular choice for installation in houses all over Victoria because they give a homey, warm look. They operate with dimmer controls, provide uniform lighting, and can make a space appear bigger. Although the majority of the clients we deal with have chosen not to install dimmer switches, there are still a lot of inquiries and requests for upgrading to LED in houses that already have dimmer switches.
Can we get a complimentary update to LED from dimmable lights?
You can update adjustable downlights, yes. But it's a little more nuanced than a straightforward affirmative.
Dimmable halogen downlights usually come in one of two models: GU10s or MR16s. We are unable to replace incandescent MR16 downlights on dimmer switches with MR16 dimmable LED fixtures. Although dimmable MR16s are available on the market, we won't install them. They are infamously unreliable, so we don't advise investing in them for commercial or domestic properties. They'll probably break down, and you'll have to replace them. We cannot perform a FREE update to LED if you have adjustable MR16s, but we can improve your fixtures to IC Rated downlights. Due to the fact that the VEU Program does not fully subsidize these upgrades, there is an extra expense associated with them.
By switching to IC Rated LED downlights, you'll still save about 85% on your lighting expenses and enjoy all the extra perks like their ten-year lifespan, lack of flickering or dulling, inability to operate at high temps, and better light quality. They can get near to roof insulation, which is an even larger advantage:
An insulation contact rated downlight is referred to as "IC Rated. When a downlight is given a "IC" rating, it indicates that it complies with AS/NZS standard 60598.2.2:2001, the New Australian Standard on Recessed Luminaires. Additionally, it indicates that these goods are approved for use as construction insulation. This indicates that, unlike with most downlights, the light fitting may come into direct touch with insulation. What are IC Rated downlights? (From our article)

If your adjustable halogen downlights are GU10 globes, we should be able to easily and for no charge change them to dimmable LEDs.
The converter that is connected to each MR16 globe should make it simple for you to determine whether your globes are MR16 or GU10, but if you can't get behind your lights to verify, we can do it for you. You can find out which globes you have and whether you qualify for a free update to dimmable LEDs by taking a photo with your phone and sending it to us at enquiries (at) energymakeovers.com.au along with your name and contact information.
