CCT: UNDERSTANDING CORRELATED COLOR TEMPERATURE OF YOUR LIGHT

Did you know that the colour temperature, often known as CCT, is simply a measurement of how yellow or blue the colour of light emitted from a light source (such as a bulb or chip) appears?

Generally, the human eye, which automatically adapts to various lighting situations, will interpret any uniform white LED illumination as being white. However, there are a number of slight colour changes in white LED lighting that are noticeable when two distinct LED lights are positioned adjacent to one another. LED light comes in a variety of colours, from a warm yellow that is similar to incandescent lighting to a cold, bluish-white that is similar to daylight. The colour cast of the light generated by an LED fixture is referred to as its "colour temperature".

The range of CCT, which is measured in Kelvin degrees, is typically between 2700 Kelvin degrees and 6500 Kelvin degrees. From 1,000k (candlelight) to 10,000k (cold, sky blue), the scale is available. The colour is "warmer" and more red or orange at the lower end of the scale. On the other hand, the higher end of the spectrum has a colder vibe to it and leans more towards white or blue.

Depending on the manufacturer, natural sunlight ranges from 4000 to 5000 kelvin. Most industrial and commercial lighting will fall within the 5000k bright white range. Light with a high percentage of blue and a CCT of 5000k and above is crisp white and resembles natural sunshine. LED lighting with this CCT is frequently chosen for commercial and industrial environments since it is thought to improve concentration and productivity. The 5000k colour temperature is also used for external parking lots and flood lighting because it offers increased visibility and safety.

The optimal CCT for each application will vary depending on the climate. Warm, cosy lighting would be appropriate in a living room or bedroom at home. In a warehouse, where visibility is vital, a higher, brighter CCT would be ideal.

As lighting technology develops, more "Selectable CCT" choices will be included into the lighting fixture itself, giving you the option to choose the CCT before installation or the flexibility to alter the CCT if you need to better match the temperature to the surroundings.
