North Carolina's Durham-(BUSINESS WIRE)- The SGH firm Cree LED (Nasdaq: SGH) announced today that the city of Santiago de Querétaro in central Mexico has enlisted IDC Componentes (IDC2) and Ilumiled to overhaul all of its downtown lighting. The project will replace 1600 sodium-based lights with LED fixtures. The state and local governments approved the renovation, which would improve light uniformity, reduce electricity usage by more than half over the next five to ten years, and preserve the softness and light hue of the downtown region.
The city of Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico, used Cree LED's 2200K technology to modernize its downtown lighting. The result is a soft, light hue that maintains the city's historic beauty while also greatly increasing light uniformity and lowering power usage.
Using a 2200K CCT, Cree LED's JR5050C E Class LEDs were chosen to provide more light while maintaining the cozy atmosphere of the original sodium lights. IDC2's Sciolux LED modules, which are used in the new fixtures, are expected to cut power usage by 58% over the next ten years, saving over $80,000 USD in energy costs annually.
According to Santiago de Querétaro Mayor Luis Nava, "it was important to preserve the integrity of lighting in our lovely downtown area from the 18th century, but we also recognized the need to modernize with better energy efficiency." By collaborating with IDC Componentes and Ilumiled, we were able to identify the ideal LEDs to maintain the consistency of our lighting while providing the necessary energy and financial savings. We are seeing a twofold increase in light production while using less than half the energy.
