Benefits of LED Panel Lights

Efficiency of Energy Use

Fluorescent lights provide 80–105 lumens per watt, whereas LED flat panel lights produce 130–200+ lm/W. With same or superior light output and uniformity, switching from a 4-lamp T8 fluorescent troffer (128W with ballast) to a 50W LED 2x4 panel light instantly saves 61% of energy.

Longer Life Expectancy

The rating for flat panel LED lights ranges from 50,000 to 100,000+ hours. A 50,000-hour panel light lasts more than 13 years at 10 hours per day, but fluorescent tubes only last two to three years. Relamping labour is eliminated, maintenance expenses are decreased, and regular tube replacements in inhabited environments like offices, schools, and hospitals are prevented.

Consistent, Glare-Free Lighting

Diffuser technology, such as edge-lit light guides or direct-lit diffuser sheets, is used by panel lights to disperse light uniformly along the fixture face. This provides glare-free, shadow-free lighting, which is essential for computer work in offices, reading in classrooms, and healthcare settings where productivity is directly impacted by visual comfort.

Extremely Slim Profile

Compared to fluorescent troffers, which are 3–5 inches deep, edge-lit ceiling panel lights are as thin as 0.4 inches. This contemporary style works well in rooms with a shallow plenum depth above the ceiling grid, modern office architecture, and minimalist interiors.

Easy Disposal, No Mercury

Each fluorescent bulb has three to five milligrams of mercury, necessitating the disposal of hazardous waste. There are no toxic materials or mercury in LED ceiling panel lights. Standard e-waste recycling is applicable when a panel light reaches the end of its useful life after more than 13 years; no special handling or regulatory compliance is required.

Complete Dimming and Controls

0–10V dimming, DALI, and wireless protocols for zone management, occupancy-based switching, daylight harvesting, and scheduling are all supported by LED led flat panels. When compared to non-dimmed fluorescent systems, lay-in lights with built-in sensors may save energy by 50–70%.

Features of Contemporary Panel Lighting

Features that were not achievable with fluorescent lights are now included in LED panel lights:

A backup battery for emergencies

Emergency backup batteries, usually 6-cell, 43.2 Wh lithium packs that activate during power outages and offer decreased output (~17W) for more than 90 minutes, are integrated into many LED LED panels. This removes the need for separate emergency lights in workplaces, schools and healthcare institutions and satisfies building code egress lighting requirements.

Colour Temperature Switch (CCT-Selectable)

Installers may choose from a variety of colour temperatures during installation, often 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, and 5000K, using a driver-mounted switch. Warm lobbies, neutral offices, and cold task areas are all covered by a single SKU. The choice of colour is determined during installation and may be altered if the purpose of the area changes.

Selectable Wattage

Multiple wattages (e.g., 30/40/50/60/72W for 2x4 panel lights) may be selected by a sliding switch on the driver. This maximises brightness in job areas and prevents overlighting in corridors by adjusting lumen output without replacing lights. A single panel light may accommodate hundreds of combinations when combined with CCT-selectable.

Motion Sensors Integrated

When a room is empty, built-in PIR or microwave sensors automatically turn on or dim flat panel LED lights. Perfect for spaces with sporadic use, such as conference rooms, break rooms, bathrooms, and storage areas. In these regions, motion-sensor lights save energy by 30–50%.
