   We often see protection standards such as IP55, IP68, and IPX7. So what do these mean?
Taking IP55 as an example, IP represents protection, and level 55 represents level. The first digit is the level of solid substance resistance, and the second digit is the level of liquid substance resistance, which means level 5 dust and water resistance. As for the meaning of X and representing nothing, for example, IPX7 only represents level 7 waterproofing.

    1) Explanation of Solid Substance Level
IP1x: Protects against solid foreign objects with a diameter of 50mm and larger. Protect objects with a large surface area, such as hands (intentional intrusion without protection);
IP2x: Protects against solid foreign objects with a diameter of 12mm and larger. Protect fingers or other objects with a length not exceeding 80mm;
IP3x: Protects against solid foreign objects with a diameter of 2.5mm and larger. Tools, metal wires, etc. with a protective diameter or thickness exceeding 2.5mm;
IP4x: Protects against solid foreign objects with a diameter of 1.0mm and larger. Metal wires or strips with a protective thickness greater than 1.0mm;
IP5x: Dust protection. It is impossible to completely prevent dust from entering, but the amount of dust entering will not affect the normal operation of the equipment; Placed in a sand and dust box, the test time is 8 hours;
IP6x: Dust resistant. No dust entering. Placed in a sand and dust box, negative pressure is required, and the test time is 8 hours.

   2) Explanation of anti liquid substance level
IPx1: Protective water droplets (vertically falling water droplets);
IPx2: When the device is tilted 15 degrees, protect against water droplets. Vertically falling water droplets should not cause damage;
IPx3: Protection against splashing water. Water splashed from both sides of the vertical line at a 60 degree angle should not cause damage; Use a swing tube or sprinkler to spray water. Conduct a swing tube test for 10 minutes, with the sprinkler spraying water for 1 minute/m2 for at least 5 minutes.
IPx4: Protective water spray. When the equipment is tilted 15 degrees to its normal position, water aimed at the equipment from any direction should not cause damage; Use a swing tube or sprinkler to spray water. Conduct a swing tube test for 10 minutes, with the sprinkler spraying water for 1 minute/m2 for at least 5 minutes.
IPX5: Protective water jet. The water jet aimed at the equipment from any direction should not cause damage; Spray water onto each surface for at least 3 minutes using a 6.3mm diameter nozzle 2.5 to 3 meters away from the sample.
IPx6: Protect against large waves. The amount of water entering the equipment due to large waves or strong jetting should not cause damage; Spray water onto each surface for at least 3 minutes using a 12.5mm diameter nozzle 2.5 to 3 meters away from the sample.
IPX7: Protection against immersion in water. When immersed in water under defined pressure and time, there should be no water intrusion that can cause damage; The water surface should be at least 0.15 meters above the top of the shell, and the bottom of the shell should be at least 1 meter underwater. The test time is 30 minutes.
IPx8: Protection against water flooding. Can be used underwater for a long time at a depth of 1 meter; The water surface height and test time are negotiated between the user and the manufacturer. It is an open level, but the height must not be less than 1 meter.
