Yes, swimming during the day can be enjoyable. Nothing compares to dipping your toes into cool water on a hot day and seeing the way the pool sparkles. However, there are also several benefits to swimming at night. There is no risk of sunburn, you can float on your back while gazing up at the stars, and the water is frequently warmer than the chilly nighttime air. Beautiful.
However, swimming at night in a pool isn't nearly as enjoyable without lighting. Who knows what kinds of invisible, waiting deep-water monsters may be hiding beneath the surface? A less comfortable swim can result from the failure of even one pool light bulb. The good news is that it's simple to correct.
Upgrading and Replacing Pool Light Bulbs
The process of changing a burned-out pool light bulb is rather simple. But bear in mind that you don't necessarily need to have your bulbs out in order to change them.
Additionally, you can update to LED bulbs that are brighter and consume less energy than incandescent bulbs do. Many LED lamps may also change colour, making your evening pool parties and nighttime swims even more entertaining.
If You Go Pro.
It sounds simple to change a pool light bulb, and it is. But it's crucial to keep in mind that this isn't the same as changing a lamp's light bulb. You run the additional risk of having the bulb soaked in water. You'll probably be in the water as well to change it. We also don't need to elaborate on why electricity and water don't mix.
Therefore, seek a professional if you feel any discomfort performing this task. A pool maintenance specialist can swiftly and easily replace a pool light bulb-or all of them, if you're upgrading-because safety is always the top priority.
Should You DIY
Are you up for the task of replacing a pool light bulb on your own? We can help with that! Make sure you have the necessary supplies on hand after first determining what sort of bulb is appropriate for your pool.
You'll require
bulb for pool lights replacement
substitute lens gasket
flathead and Philips screwdrivers
Multimeter
Some dry towels
Safety should always come first, so make sure you read all the directions carefully before starting and follow them exactly.
Disconnect the power
Keep in mind that when changing a pool light bulb, you will likely be standing in or at least touching water and touching wiring. Check, then double check, then triple check to be sure there is absolutely no power to your pool area before you do anything with any of your pool lights.
1. Drain a portion of the pool's water
This step is not required. Drain a little water first if it will make it simpler for you to reach and work on the bulb. Just keep in mind that you'll need to replace it later and add chemicals to restore the water's pH equilibrium.
2. Remove the Light's Pilot Screw
The top of the light is where you'll typically find it. You'll need either a flathead or a Phillips screwdriver because the screw types differ.
3. Pry the Fixture out.
After removing the screw, carefully peel the light out of its fixture. Most of the time, you'll discover that you have enough spare wiring to be able to take the fixture out of the pool and set it up on the deck. To avoid damaging the lens, place it on one of the towels.
4. Examine the Wiring.
Use the multimeter to confirm there is no electricity present before touching the wires with your naked hands.
If so, something hasn't been turned off; locate it and do so before continuing.
5. Disassemble the fixture
Pull off the lens, lens gasket, and face ring to access the pool light bulb after removing all the screws or clamps keeping the fixture together.
Be cautious when disassembling these parts because it's conceivable that some or all of them have been rusted over time. Also, avoid doing it over water to prevent debris from falling in.
With a dry towel, remove any dirt or other debris. You might need to replace the complete assembly if the corrosion is severe enough to make it difficult to install a new bulb.
6. Discard the Previous Light Bulb
Grab the bulb with a cloth and unscrew it slowly and carefully. Use a towel to dry and clean the interior of the light fixture after it has been removed.
7. Insert the New Bulb
Replace the pool light bulb by carefully and slowly tightening it in. Make sure it's secure, but take care not to overtighten it. It could get broken that way. Reassemble the fixture after placing the lens gasket around the lens.
8. Examine the Light.
Turn on the power and check that the light is on before replacing the fixture in the pool wall.
Important: Act fast because pool lights aren't made to last very long when they're not submerged.
Even More Important: After making sure the light functions, turn the power off once more to complete the installation.
9. Examine for Leaks
Make sure the light fixture is submerged and that none of the sealed light's outside edges leaks air. If you do notice air bubbles, remove the fixture from the water once more, disassemble it, let it dry inside, and then reassemble it.
Once you don't see any air bubbles, test it again.
10. Upgrade the pool wall light
Place the fixture back into place after pushing the extra wiring back into the wall. Replace the screw(s) after making sure the screw(s) in the fixture and the wall are lined properly.
11. Restart the power
Make one final check to ensure the light is on. When it does, congratulate yourself and have a celebratory swim!
Just a friendly reminder to engage a professional to complete the task for you if any of this seems like you could probably go poke a fork into an outlet.
