How to choose the right LED bulbs for your home?
Over the years, the main parameter for choosing the most suitable classic filament bulb was power (W). However, power (W) only indicates energy consumption and does not provide any information about the light quality and quantity. Traditional LED bulbs, compact fluorescent lamps, and LED bulbs produce the same amount and quality of light, but the power (W) can vary significantly. Therefore, the most suitable parameter for a bulb is luminous flux, measured in lumens (lm). This can tell us the reflectivity of the bulb.
Lighting angle
When choosing light bulbs, it is also important to pay attention to the beam angle. For LED bulbs with the same luminous flux (lm) and power (W), the beam angles may vary. Traditional bulbs with E27 and E14 lamp heads typically have a beam angle of approximately 300 degrees. The beam angle of LED bulbs ranges from 10° to 300°.
Color temperature (Kelvin)
Household lighting fixtures must meet certain requirements for light color quality and object reproduction. Regarding white light, consumers typically choose among so-called warm white light, neutral white light (daylight), and cool white light. The color of the light emitted by the bulb determines the color temperature, which is expressed in Kelvin (indicated on the packaging as K). The color temperature of warm white light is between 2600 and 3200 K, that of daylight white light is between 4000 and 4500 K, and that of cool white light is between 4500 and 6000 K.
Life expectancy
In the eyes of consumers, the lifespan of light bulbs is of utmost importance. To date, many consumers have had the unpleasant experience of light bulbs burning out faster than the time indicated on the packaging. However, neither the manufacturers nor the technical specifications are held responsible for this issue. The misunderstanding stems from the misinterpretation of the information on the packaging. The packaging indicates that at least 50% of the tested light bulbs will still function properly after exceeding that time. Therefore, regardless of the stated lifespan, if 50% of the sold light bulbs are defective, this is not an error. For example, if the packaging indicates that a light bulb has an annual lifespan of 10,000 hours, in reality, only half of the bulbs will reach this lifespan.
Choose energy-saving products.
The energy efficiency of lamps is expressed in lumens per watt (lm/W). Currently, there are many different energy-efficient lamps on the market. Energy-saving LED lamps have an energy efficiency that is 5-10 times higher than traditional incandescent lamps and compact fluorescent lamps. Therefore, compared to standard lighting, LED lamps can reduce energy consumption and costs by 50% to 90%. LED lamps are increasingly popular due to their numerous advantages. LED lamps are composed of light-emitting diodes, which enhance the durability and electrical efficiency of the lamps. The energy efficiency of LED lamps ranges from 70% to 90%. This means that approximately 80% of the electrical energy is converted into light energy. LED lamps have lower power consumption, so their total energy consumption is lower than that of traditional or compact lamps, but their luminous flux is higher.
However, please remember that when choosing LED bulbs, what matters is the light, not the wattage (the power consumption of LED bulbs in watts does not represent the intensity of the light). So, pay attention to the lumen! The higher the lumen, the brighter the light will be when turned on, thus eliminating the time for gradual heating. Since LEDs do not emit infrared or ultraviolet rays, they will not heat up even when used for a long time. Therefore, LED lights are suitable for illuminating objects and materials that will lose their light quality when heated.
When using LED lights, you don't need to worry about frequent switching as it won't affect the lifespan of the lights. The lifespan of LED bulbs can last up to 100,000 hours. If you use the lights for 8 hours every day, you will only need to replace the bulbs once every 20 years. Moreover, LED bulbs can easily withstand shocks, vibrations and other external influences. Therefore, LED lights can be used for outdoor lighting installations.
The environmental benefits of LED lights are also very important. Unlike compact fluorescent lamps, LED bulbs do not contain toxic chemicals and can be recycled.
