Use more LEDs at lower current rather than fewer LEDs at high current for a given brightness.
Make sure there is enough ventilation by keeping the fixture away from tight spaces and insulation.
For high-power applications, if at all feasible, include a tiny fan (active cooling).
Keep an eye on the junction temperature and try to keep it as low as you can (below 85°C is okay; below 65°C is optimal for extended life).
2. Select an LED Driver with a Long Life
Frequently, the driver malfunctions before the LEDs.
Electrolytic capacitors should be avoided since they eventually dry up. Use passive LED drivers (only resistors, inductors, and capacitors) or look for drivers made without electrolytic capacitors (using solid capacitors or film capacitors).
Employ constant-current drivers to lessen the strain on LEDs by supplying steady current. Only with appropriate current-limiting resistors can constant-voltage drivers be used.
Add protection: Driver life is increased by surge protection (MOV or TVS diode), overvoltage protection, and overtemperature protection.

For a strong electrical connection and resistance to corrosion, use gold wire.
High-power LEDs with a ceramic substrate are superior than PCB-based packaging.
Lumen maintenance: At the designated junction temperature, look for a L70 rating of ≥50,000 hours (or ≥100,000 hours).
Low thermal resistance: Select LEDs with low junction-to-case thermal resistance, or Rθj-c.
4. Improve Circuit Design
Reverse voltage should never be more than 5 V; if necessary, employ a protective diode.
Use an active constant-current circuit or resistor for proper current limiting.
Create a circuit that automatically lowers current when the temperature increases over a certain threshold. This is known as thermal foldback.
5. Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices
ESD protection: LEDs are susceptible to static electricity. Make use of anti-static packaging, wrist straps, and grounded workstations.
Moisture sensitivity: If LEDs have collected moisture, bake them before reflow soldering (per MSL rating).
Sulphur resistance: To stop silver plating from corroding due to sulphur, either seal the fixture or use LEDs that are classified as sulfur-resistant in contaminated situations.
Ageing test: To identify early problems, run completed lights for 24 to 48 hours prior to delivery.
6. Install and Use Correctly
Regular cleaning is necessary because dust accumulation serves as thermal insulation.
Use suitable dimmers: Only dimmers designated as LED-compatible should be used. Flickering and early failure are caused by incompatible dimmers.
Stable input voltage: Use a driver with a broad input range (such as 90–305 V AC) or install a surge protector in regions where voltage surges occur.
