Part 3. Is SMD better than COB?
For everyone working in LED lighting, the discussion between SMD (Surface-Mounted Diode) and COB (Chip on Board) LED technologies is essential since each has varying advantages depending on the application. In comparison to conventional lighting, these technologies provide improved energy economy, brightness, and adaptability. They are examples of improvements in LED lighting. But because of their differences in functionality, performance, and design, each is appropriate for a different set of use cases. This article examines various variations and determines which is superior for certain purposes.
SMD LEDs: Using SMD technology, a printed circuit board (PCB)'s surface is directly mounted with the diode. The tiny size and capacity to hold many diodes on a single chip of SMD LEDs are its distinguishing features. It is possible for each diode to have its own circuit, enabling more intricate patterns such as RGB or RGBW arrangements. Because of its adaptability, SMDs may be used for a broad range of purposes, such as backlit displays, automobile lights, and general illumination.
COB LEDs: A COB, or Chip on Board, module is created by directly attaching many LED chips onto a substrate.
