Cleaning the walls

Choose downlights with a wide beam angle of at least 60 degrees or more to generate this impression. This will result in a widespread distribution of light. This method calls for a downlight equipped with either an angled recess or a gimbal function. This allows the beam of light to be directed in such a way that it directly strikes the wall, rather than merely skimming its surface. Blocking the portion of the light that is directed away from the wall can also be accomplished with the help of wall wash trim.
Put some distance between the downlights and the wall—at least one metre, but preferably more. It is important to ensure that the space between each downlight is equivalent to the distance that separates it from the wall. Another option is to place the downlights even closer together than the set-back distance allows, which will result in a look that is both brighter and more consistent.
Wall Grazing
Wall grazing is a kind of lighting that draws attention to the texture of the wall by emphasising the shadows. When applied to walls made of rough materials like stone or brick, this method creates an effect that is both distinctive and dramatic. This kind of lighting is also fantastic for usage outside, where it may be utilised to highlight garden features such as statues, carvings, or trees.
Choose spotlights or downlights with a narrow beam angle of fewer than 60 degrees so that you can generate the desired appearance. These lights should be installed at a set-back distance of approximately 150mm to 300mm from the wall where they will be mounted. Cast the light in a direct vertical direction such that the length of the beam lightly skims over the surface's rough pattern. Indoor wall grazing can be accomplished with the installation of recessed downlights in the ceiling. The light can also be directed upward from the ground using spike spots, which are another option for usage in outdoor garden lighting.
Lighting the Scallops
Try out the scallop lighting method for a light element that has a lot of visual movement. Through the use of this technique, overlapping arches of light are produced on the wall.
Utilise recessed downlights with a beam angle that is lower than sixty degrees in order to accomplish this effect. Put the downlights twice as far away from one another as you did when you were spacing them from the wall. If your set back distance from the wall is 0.5 metres, for instance, you would install the lights such that they are 1 metres apart from one another.
Make a gentle scallop effect by installing recessed downlights that have a white interior baffle or a reflector that is chrome. These will reflect some light by gradually broadening the light beam while also dispersing its edges. A sharper scallop can also be achieved by employing a black baffle downlight, which will absorb the edges of the light beam to create clean scallop lines. This is an alternative method for achieving a crisper scallop.
