IP rating
The initials IP, two numerals, and an arbitrary optional letter make up the IP (International/Ingression Protection) Code. Solid objects, dust, accidental touch, and moisture are categorized in electric boxes according to the IEC 60529 standard. Giving them information that is more precise than marketing buzzwords like "waterproof" is the aim.
Enclosure protection against solid foreign objects and dangerous items is indicated by the first integer. The first number represents the degree of protection (for enclosed equipment) against foreign substances and the degree of protection (for people) against moving parts. On the other hand, the safety of enclosed equipment against dangerous water infiltration is indicated by the second digit. It details the level of moisture protection (drips, sprays, submersion, etc.) that the enclosure is given.
Before continuing, let us first explain the meaning of each numeral to help you better understand how IP65 and IP68 work, how they differ, and when to choose one over the other.
IP65 vs IP68
IP65
It might be regarded as the minimal need for the harsh conditions. It may be used in a variety of ways, including
- indoor/outdoor
- wash down process
- hygiene/sanitation process
- coastal applications
- lightning
- meters and gauges for industrial use
It is suitable for many different products such as
- Electrical stepper motors
- Light Fixtures
- Industrial Monitors
- Outdoor sensor and motion controllers
- Medical PCs
- Keypads
- Balances and Scales
IP68
Extreme circumstances necessitating both routine and extended ingress protection may require its use. It has various applications, including
- indoor/outdoor
- military field equipment
- automotive production
- machine building
- shipping and marine applications
- aerospace equipment.
It is suitable for many different products such as
- Water Proof Outdoor Products
- PCs & Monitors
- Panel Switches
- Pilot Devices
- Cables, Connectors & Adapters
