With regard to the distance from the warehouse light fixture to the area that has to be illuminated, a variety of high bay and low bay lights have been developed to address the demand for illuminating huge storage spaces. The internal "bay" subspace of many industrial structures is created using skeleton frames. The word "bay" is used in the lighting business to describe virtually any sizable interior space that has to be lit. The term "high bay lighting applications" refers to lighting systems intended for use in high bay architectural structures, such as those found in warehouses, gymnasiums, manufacturing facilities, parking garages, big-box stores, and the like, where the ceilings can reach heights of 25 to 40 feet. Low bay luminaires are defined by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) as those created for installations with ceiling heights under 25 feet. A range of low and high bay lights with various light sources, form factors, light patterns, and connector configurations have been created for various warehouse lighting applications, as is to be anticipated given the rising demand.
