The new third generation LED lowers costs by allowing makers of headlights and daytime running lamps to achieve a given luminous output with fewer LEDs. Its single-chip model can produce 440 lm, up from 405 lm in the previous generation.
Because modern LEDs are more effective, automakers can lower CO2 emissions and improve vehicle energy efficiency.

The third generation of the well-liked OSLON® Compact PL family of automotive LEDs is being introduced by ams OSRAM (SIX: AMS), a global leader in optical solutions, in Premstaetten, Austria, and Munich, Germany (June 22, 2023) -- with a technical improvement of 8% higher brightness than the second generation. The new OSLON® Compact PL LEDs provide vehicle forward illumination makers with additional design possibilities and greater value by using fewer LEDs to provide the luminous brightness needed by safety regulations.

The OSLON® Compact PL products, which are compact LEDs in a sturdy ceramic package, are a standard part of forward lighting assemblies in all vehicle market sectors, from entry-level to high-end. Since 1990, Ams OSRAM has delivered about 100 billion LEDs for automobiles, establishing itself as a global leader in automotive lighting and a major contributor to the increased safety of cars on the road today. The popular OSLON® Compact PL products provide a dependable, standards-compliant light output for running lights throughout the day as well as for high- and low-beam headlamps.

The long-term trend of increasing energy efficiency is maintained by the third-generation OSLON® Compact PL. The effectiveness of this well-liked product family has grown by 33% since 2017 thanks to Ams OSRAM (24.6 lm/W). Car manufacturers are able to lessen the climatic impact of running vehicle lighting systems because to the growing effectiveness of these LEDs. Lighting equipment designers now have more alternatives when it comes to selecting optical assembly components, such light guides, thanks to the new OSLON® Compact PL's increased brightness.

"The most recent iteration of the OSLON® Compact PL benefits from ams OSRAM's world leadership in LED chip and package technology," said Florian Fink, Product Marketing Manager at ams OSRAM. Automobile OEMs may now do more with less thanks to increased optical power output from the same area.

Design freedom is provided by many variations.

The cutting-edge UX.3 chip from Ams OSRAM serves as the foundation for the new AEC-Q102 rated OSLON® Compact PL. It has Class 3A corrosion robustness certification.

In contrast to the second generation's 405 lm luminous output, the single-chip version often generates 440 lm. The OSLON® Compact PL has a light-emitting surface area of up to (1150 µm)2 and comes in 2-, 3-, and 4-chip versions.

There are two possible bundle selections. One isolated thermal pad is included in the three-pad variant for better heat dissipation. Larger pads in the two-pad variant provide a more secure connection with an inexpensive aluminum PCB.

The third generation OSLON® Compact PL series consists of the following six products:

According to TrendForce's LED Industry Quarterly Report 2/2023, ASOSRAM is the industry leader for automotive lighting and a worldwide leader in the automotive and mobility sectors. Nearly every significant section of a car uses the company's optical components and cutting-edge technology, including the external lighting (which uses the best LED technology for headlights), rear lighting, inside lighting, and decorative lighting.

Offering both edge-emitting laser (EEL) and vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) technologies, the business is a pioneer in LiDAR technology. Driver and passenger monitoring is made possible by in-cabin sensing technology, and stray-field immune position sensors and battery monitoring sensors are examples of very accurate sensing technology for electric cars. Ams OSRAM is also the industry leader in replacement and aftermarket lighting for automobiles.
