RGB vs. RGBW LED Strip Light. What’s the Difference?
Since they've been available, RGB LED strip lights have been a terrific option for previously unheard-of accent lighting elements. LED setups that are imaginative and colourful are now possible thanks to RGB strip lights. Customers may choose from a broad variety of customised colours for totally original lighting solutions with these LED strips. The popularity of RGB LED strip lights has led to the development of a new tape light technology. LED strip lights with RGB+W technology add white LED diodes to the RGB colour spectrum. The distinctions between RGB and RGB+W LED tape lights are discussed in this article, along with possible applications for each.
What distinguishes RGB and RGB+W LED strip lights from one another?
LED Strip Lights in RGB
The RibbonFlex RGB LED Tape Light from BENWEI Lighting employs a 3-in-1 5050 LED chip made up of red, green, and blue LED diodes. By combining the three, these LED strips may create a broad spectrum of hues, including an almost-white appearance when the LED colours are at their highest brightness.
LED Strip Lights in RGB+W
Red, green, and blue LEDs are included in the RibbonFlex RGB+W LED Tape Light, but it also includes a twin LED chip design that pairs a white 2835 LED with each of the RGB diodes. The RGB+W LED strip lamp can create a variety of dazzling colours, soft-bright (3000K) white, or a mix of white and RGB thanks to the added white LED chip.
The specialised white LED chip offers a pure white tone that is ideal for task and accent lighting when colour is not required, despite the fact that RGB may create colour that is nearly white. Additionally, the additional white chip enables the LED strip to provide a distinctive RGB and colour illumination mix.
Which is superior?
Compared to regular RGB LED strips, RGB+W tape light is unquestionably a lot more versatile solution. Although somewhat more costly than RGB, the 24 Volt RGB+W tape light is superior for a wider range of setups and has better functionality. In general, 12 Volt RGB tape light is more affordable. If you want bright colours but don't need pure white, or if you have a limited budget, this is a decent alternative for illumination.
Controlling RGB and RGB+W Strip Light
LED strip lights in RGB and RGB+W have somewhat different controls. Red, green, blue, and power are the four outputs of RGB, but the RGB+W tape has five outputs (red, green, blue, and power). ProLine and SlimLine wireless switch controllers from BENWEI Lighting come in RGB and RGB+W variations. They come in Wi-Fi/smart controllers as well as conventional wireless controls.
By omitting the W connector from the wiring, the RGB+W LED controllers will function with RGB tape light. However, RGB+W strip lights cannot be controlled by RGB controllers.
Low-voltage LED tape lights in the RGB and RGB+W colour temperatures both require an LED driver or power source to function (as well as a controller). For undercabinet illumination, they are highly well-liked.
