Benefits of LED Light Bulbs
Initially, there is the decreased energy use. The LED form of illumination consumes significantly less energy for heating compared to alternative lighting systems. It is significantly more efficient than the vacuum/filament method employed in incandescent bulbs, utilising at least 75 percent less energy and emitting minimal heat compared to incandescent bulbs (which dissipate 90 percent of their energy as heat) and CFLs (which release approximately 80 percent of their energy as heat).
Operating your illumination for 4,320 hours annually (360 hours monthly/90 hours weekly/12.85 hours daily), a 100-watt incandescent bulb consumes 432 kilowatt-hours per year, whilst a comparable 14-watt LED bulb utilises little over 60 kilowatt-hours annually. LEDs release 90 percent less CO2 than traditional halogen bulbs and 50 percent less than compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs).
However, energy efficiency constitutes only a portion of the narrative. The other aspect is temporal efficiency: A high-quality LED bulb may theoretically last 25,000 hours or more, whereas incandescent lights have a lifespan of 1,000 hours. Solid-state lighting, such as LEDs, has more stability as light sources compared to incandescent or fluorescent bulbs, and the contrast is remarkable: One must use an LED light continuously for 24 hours daily, seven days a week, over a timeframe of three years to equal the lifespan of an incandescent bulb. Not all LED light bulbs achieve their theoretical lifespan. Certain individuals may experience reduced life spans due to early component deterioration.
The temporal advantage complicates the cost problem. A 60-watt LED replacement bulb is priced at around $9.48 for a four-pack, but the equivalent pack of incandescent bulbs costs $3.97, as reported by Home Depot.
In reality, despite the initial cost of $9.48 for a pack of four bulbs, LEDs ultimately yield financial savings over time, as they require replacement only once every decade or two. Additionally, they are six to seven times more energy-efficient than incandescent bulbs, reducing energy consumption by over 80 percent.

Apprehensions Regarding LED Light Bulbs
LEDs are set to dominate residential lighting. Philips offers a range of LED lights with colour variations and Wi-Fi-enabled bulbs. General Electric offers an LED+ line with light bulbs equipped with speakers, timers, colour modulation, and more functionalities. It is projected that LEDs would comprise 75 percent of total lighting sales by 2030.
According to specialists, the outlook on LEDs appears rather favourable. Innovations are emerging at an accelerated rate. However, there exists one issue.
An increasing number of research have been published about the blue light emitted by LEDs. Researchers assert that it may be detrimental to our ocular health and overall well-being. A French health agency stated that it can harm the retina and disrupt our circadian rhythm and sleep patterns. The organisation advised restricting the usage of LED devices with elevated blue-light levels, particularly for youngsters. This include computers, cellphones, and other displays, as well as perhaps specific toys and decorative lighting.
The 2019 report corroborated the agency's 2010 findings about the ocular toxicity of blue light, which may result in impaired vision. The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) said that acute exposure results in short-term phototoxic effects, while chronic exposure leads to long-term consequences that elevate the risk of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD).
