While reading instructions can be tedious, we've made this installation guide as succinct and straightforward as we can. Make sure you thoroughly read these instructions before starting your installation. They offer a wealth of practical advice and hints that will ensure a flawless installation, save you time, and keep you safe.
The National Electric Code (NEC) and all relevant municipal construction and electrical codes for your region must be followed when installing this device (and all other electrical items) by a certified individual. You should engage a qualified and licenced electrician to complete the task if you are unsure about the NEC, your local building/electrical codes, or the right installation techniques for electrical devices.
Always turn off electricity at the fuse box or circuit breaker before beginning any electrical work.
selecting an installation technique
Your aspectLED Ultra-Thin recessed LED lights can be installed using one of two techniques. Usually, the amount of vertical clearance you have at the light site will influence which approach you go with.
The traditional installation technique is typically chosen if there is at least 1.75" of space above your plasterboard. If you have enough area to fit a junction box through your hole and there is no pipe, wire, joist, or other obstruction in your way, you might be able to employ the standard installation procedure. The low clearance installation method is often used when there is less than 1.75" of space above your plasterboard.
Making a layout plan
Recessed lights are often evenly spaced apart from one another so that they make a grid pattern on the ceiling. The LED wattage of your light will normally determine how far apart your lights are from one another.
traditional installation techniques
This will be the quickest and easiest installation option if you have more than 1.75" of room above your plasterboard or simply a little impediment (such a pipe or a wire) in your way. Please proceed to the bottom if your ceiling is still covered in plasterboard (new construction applications).
Plan the locations of your lights on the ceiling.
Lay out the positions of each light on your ceiling, using a tape measure and the layout or grid style you've chosen, and make a tiny pencil mark in the centre of each spot. As you are marking the locations of your lights, it is wise to keep in mind the proverb "measure twice, cut once." Nobody wants to patch or fix a ceiling after making a mistake with where to make their hole.
Cut the hole into which you will insert the fixture.
Draw the right sized cut-out hole (round or square, depending on your fixture) on your ceiling using a pencil after consulting the table above to determine the correct hole size for your Ultra-Thin recessed LED light fixture. Create a hole in your ceiling that is the right size and form for your light using a jab saw (or, optionally, a drill with a holesaw for round cuttings). Be careful not to make the cut-out hole any larger than is advised.
Your cable should be run to the light.
Run your 120 VAC electrical line from the switch/dimmer position to the location where you will put your LED driver, often at your light fixture, in compliance with the NEC and your local electrical code. Utilize supply wire that is 90° C or higher rated. Always verify your local codes to determine the appropriate type of wire to run; often, NM (also known as Romex), BX, or MC wire is required.
the motorist to the light, connect
Make sure your LED driver's input voltage is the same as your source voltage. Make sure the input voltage and current of your luminaire and the output voltage and current of your LED driver are compatible. Attach your light's plug to the driver cable plug. Observe the arrows on the plug carefully (there is one small arrow moulded into the plug on the driver side of the cable). These arrows must point in the same direction. Together, screw the connectors. It's crucial to keep in mind that each type of light requires a unique driver, and drivers CANNOT be used with other model lights.
Via the hole, insert the LED Driver.
Put the LED Driver up through the hole with care. Use screws or another detachable fastener to fasten the unit using the available keyholes if the driver must be fastened to the structure per code. In order to inspect the connections or LED driver at any moment without physically harming your ceiling or other building materials, it is crucial that the LED driver stay accessible by removing the light. Unless otherwise specified, mount your LED driver in a dry place. The cut-out hole in some smaller recessed fixtures may be too big for our driver to pass through. In this situation, you will require access from above the ceiling or behind the wall. Alternatively, you may be able to remotely find the driver and connect the luminaire to it using class 2 low voltage wire. If your LED driver is remotely located, only connect aspectLED class 2 low voltage extension cables between the luminaire and the LED driver; never connect more than one extension cable at a time.
Put your light source into the drilled hole.
After making sure the light chord is connected to the driver output cord, carefully lift the light fixture up by the retaining clips on either side and insert it into the cut-out hole. Let the spring-loaded retention clips to drop after the light fixture is in the opening, securing it firmly against the plasterboard or ceiling material. This luminaire should not be installed into ceiling material that is thicker than 1".
I'm done now! You're done now!
Congratulations! You have successfully finished the standard installation procedure. The project is complete once the light has been mounted in the ceiling. This is a perfect opportunity to take a break, relax, and reward yourself for a job well done while sipping on your favourite beverage.
Simply grasp hold of the edges of the light and slowly pull downward till the light comes about 1/2" down out of the hole if you ever need to remove it to reach your junction box (or anything in the ceiling cavity above). Get a tight grasp of the retention clips before removing the light completely to prevent your fingers from becoming trapped in the springs. Hold them up in the air as you do so. After that, carefully release the retention clips by pulling the light the remaining distance from the hole. Keep in mind that the retention clips are about as strong as a standard mousetrap! Avoid getting your fingers caught inside the springs!
Using low clearance to install
Select a location to find your drivers.
You'll arrange your drivers together (or into groups) and install them using the low clearance installation technique in a distant area. Usually, this is in a utility room, basement, unfinished room, cupboard, utility closet, or some other place. Electrical codes will require that it remain accessible without requiring you to pull apart objects in order to get to it, thus it is crucial that you mark this location in a location where you can reach it in the future. Keep in mind that your drivers should be placed within 100 feet of your lights while deciding where to put them.
To the placement of the lamp, run extension cables or low voltage wire.
From your central driver location, run aspectLED Ultra-Thin extension cables or low voltage wire to each light placement. Keep in mind that each lamp requires its own low voltage wire run or ultra-thin extension cable. Several lights cannot be daisy chained together. When utilising aspectLED Ultra-Thin extension cords, make sure to always buy the right length cable and avoid bundling several extension cables. Use a 2 conductor stranded class 2 wire if you decide to run your own low voltage wire from the driver box to each bulb. To establish the proper size of your wires, always refer to a voltage drop table that takes into account the load (wattage of the fixture) and the run length (distance from the driver to the light). We've already calculated the size for you if you utilise aspectLED Ultra-Thin extension cables. Make sure to leave 6 to 8 inches of wire protruding from the hole at the site of the light because you will need this extra length to install the light (and to remove it if necessary in the future). To have enough slack to correctly arrange your wires, be sure to leave some excess wire at the driver site.
Install your drivers and connect a 120 VAC power source here.
Securely mount your drivers to the location where you've chosen to install them (see step 1). From the switch/dimmer location, run your electrical cable to each driver. Always verify your local codes to determine the appropriate type of wire to run; often, NM (also known as Romex), BX, or MC wire is required. If you ever need to access or service your drivers, taking the time to carefully position your drivers and route your wiring will be well worth the expense. For access and serviceability, we advise a 2" gap between vehicles. Additionally, we strongly advise marking each driver with the location of the light it feeds.
the drivers to the light, please
Connect your light's plug to the Ultra-Thin extension cable plug. Pay great attention to the arrows on the plug (there is one small arrow moulded into the plug on the light side of the cable and one small arrow moulded into the plug on the driver side of the cable). These arrows must point in the same direction. Moreover, a groove can be seen on the light side of the plug and a bump or key can be seen on the driver side. Make that the bump or key slides into the slot easily. Together, screw the connectors. If you extended the distance between the driver and the light using your own wire, cut off the aspectLED-supplied connector on the light and driver, strip the black and red wires, and then connect to your extension wire, being sure to maintain the same polarity. It is simple to identify which wire is positive and negative when utilising wire with a red and black conductor. It is crucial to keep in mind that each type of light has a unique driver and that drivers CANNOT be used with other model lights.

construction new
Layout the placements of your lights before plasterboard installation, then firmly affix the rough-in plate to your joists at each light site. After mounting the brackets, you can easily change their positioning thanks to the handy slots in the rough-in brackets. Before drywalling, run wiring to each of your light spots (using the standard or low clearance installation instructions above). Double confirm each light's placement before drywalling. You won't be able to change the placement after drywalling. Tell your drywallers to use the rough-in bracket as a template to carve out the holes for each lamp. Following the remaining conventional or low clearance installation instructions in this guide, install your lights when the plasterboard is complete.
