T5HO fluorescent grow lights have existed for a considerable duration and are a favored choice for supplying adequate illumination to plants and seedlings in indoor cultivation. While they typically offer satisfactory illumination, new improvements in LED technology have been fast evolving and merit consideration.
Dedicated LED grow light lights are already ubiquitous; yet, the multitude of possibilities presents a steep learning curve. Determining the appropriate fixtures, quantity, and placement can be a formidable challenge, compounded by the substantial financial commitment required.
Today, we examine an alternative option that eliminates the fluorescent lamps and substitutes them with an identical LED . This entails retaining the existing fixture and configuration while merely replacing the bulbs, so eliminating concerns over new light fixtures and their installation.

What are the Reasons for Transitioning to LED?

Fluorescent T5HO lights are a slimmer, greater wattage variant of the common T8 fluorescent tube. Their standard 54W power rating delivers considerably greater light output than the 32W T8 equivalents, rendering them more appropriate for horticultural lighting applications.
Fluorescent tubes, regrettably, possess certain disadvantages. The most frequently referenced by indoor cultivators include:
1)The mercury content in lamps presents a health risk, particularly when cultivating plants for human use. A fractured or damaged fluorescent light may necessitate the removal of all plants from the cultivation area, followed by comprehensive cleaning and ventilation prior to reintroducing the plants.
2)High energy consumption results in elevated electricity expenses and heat accumulation in cultivation zones. During the summer months, this may also result in increased electricity expenses for air conditioning and ventilation.
3) Reduced lifespans of 10,000 hours, necessitating more frequent lamp replacements and increased maintenance expenses. LED bulbs have a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours, and several manufacturers offer a minimum warranty of three years.
4) Deficiencies in color rendering and spectrum, resulting in diminished growth quality and yield.

The Requirements for Transitioning to LED Technology

When upgrading to a new LED system, you typically have two options: acquire new fixtures with integrated LEDs or obtain LED bulbs to retrofit old fluorescent lighting.
For cultivators familiar with T5HO fluorescent lamps, an LED retrofit is frequently the most pragmatic option. Utilize the existing fluorescent fittings and substitute the fluorescent lights with retrofit LED tube lamps, analogous to the procedure followed when a fluorescent lamp fails.
Despite the tremendous expansion of the LED retrofit industry in recent years, LED retrofits for T5HO fixtures remain rather scarce and challenging to locate, partly due to the complexities involved in ensuring compatibility with the fluorescent ballasts utilized in fluorescent lamps.
