What does “IP Rating” stand for and what does it mean?

IEC standard 60529's Ingress Protection (IP) mark is abbreviated as "IP Ratings." The International Electrotechnical Commission, or IEC for short, initiated this system.

The IP rating, which typically has two digits, is used for both mechanical and electrical enclosures, such as explosion-proof enclosures and modern mobile phones. Based on the table below, this grade would be able to inform users right away of the product's level of protection.

What do the "IP Ratings" figures mean?

An IP rating typically consists of two numbers. The first number would represent the degree of defense against solid objects or substances. The protection against liquids, such as water, is indicated by the second number; the greater the number, the stronger the protection. "IP56" as an example of an IP Rating would indicate that the item is resistant to dust and forceful water jets.

First number indicates protection against dangerous access and solid foreign objects
