Energy Source
It goes without saying that an LED strip lamp requires power to illuminate. However, an LED strip light runs on direct current, typically 12 or 24 volts, rather than 230 volts of alternating current. In order to convert the alternating electricity from your wall socket into direct current for the LED strip light, you will need a power supply. Another name for a power supply is an LED driver or transformer.
Naturally, there are a wide variety of power sources. There are a few factors to consider when selecting a power supply.
First, the power supply's output voltage needs to match the voltage that the LED strip light operates at. This is due to the fact that an LED strip light will either not light up at all or light up too poorly if the voltage is too low, and it will most likely break down if the voltage is too high. You don't want that, of course.
Second, your LED strip light must be able to receive adequate current or electricity from the power supply. If you wish to utilize two meters of an LED strip light that uses 9.6 watts per meter, you will need a power source that can give at least 2 * 9.6 = 19.2 watts. Selecting a power source that can provide 10% extra power than needed is advised, though.
Lastly, the power source ought to be appropriate for your needs. For instance, it goes without saying that the LED power source needs to be waterproof if you plan to use it outside. A power supply converter with a plug is required if you just wish to connect the LED strip light to a wall outlet.
LED Controller
An LED controller is also required if you wish to adjust the color (temperature) or dim your LED strip light. There are several things to watch out for because LED controllers come in a wide variety.
First and foremost, the LED controller needs to work with your LED strip light. For instance, an RGB LED controller is required for an RGB LED strip light, while a single-color LED controller is required for a single-color LED strip light. Additionally, the LED controller needs to work with the voltage of your LED strip light and be appropriate for the current level.
Second, the LED controller needs to be properly controllable. For instance, there are LED controllers that use 2.4 GHz radio frequency (RF) and come with a remote control. Additionally, there are Zigbee-enabled LED controllers that you can interface with your smartphone, such as the Philips Hue, to control the LED strip light.
A triac-dimmable power supply or a 0-to-10-volt dimmable power supply can also be used in place of an LED controller if you have a single-color LED strip light that you wish to dim using a standard dimmer.
Profile of an LED
An LED strip light should always be mounted in an LED profile, per our recommendation. An aluminum profile that can be used to install an LED strip light is called an LED profile. The lifespan of your LED strip light is extended by an LED profile, which guarantees that the light is better cooled.
Corner, recessed, and surface mount profiles are available. The most often used profiles are surface mounted. You may simply click the LED profile into the clamps that come with surface-mounted profiles after screwing them onto something. Recessed profiles are supplied without clamps because they are intended to be built in. Profiles installed at a 45-degree angle are known as corner profiles.
A cover can be slid into the LED profiles. Different kinds of covers exist. A polycarbonate (PC) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) cover is an option. A PC cover costs a little extra, and sunlight causes a PVC cover to discolor with time.
For instance, you have the option of a milky-white or transparent cover. More light can pass through a translucent cover. The light is more evenly distributed with a milk-white cover.
