The primary distinction between the two is that LED TVs employ more recent technology LEDs for backlighting while LCD TVs use fluorescent lights (CCFLs).

In accordance with the screen illumination method, LED TVs are split into three categories. These versions include full-array LED-illuminated, dynamic RGB LED-illuminated, and edge-lit types. The edge-lit type, which uses LEDs at the screen's edges and a custom panel to distribute light behind the screen uniformly, is the most popular.

Similar categories also divide LCD TVs into three. These come in three varieties: flat-screen LCDs, front- and rear-projection LCDs.

Contrary to popular misconception, an LED TV is not an LED screen made up of a lot of LEDs. Therefore, it would be more accurate to refer to LED TVs as LCD TVs with LED backlighting.

Less electricity is used, the contrast is better, and the LED TV is slimmer. LED TVs may deliver images that are more colorful and of higher quality than LCD TVs.

LED TVs have greater picture quality for two reasons. First, LEDs can provide a variety of colored light. A sharper and more realistic color image can be produced in this manner. The ability to dim the LEDs is the second. (dimmed). A more realistic black can be projected onto the image by adjusting the LEDs' brightness.

Viewing angles on LED TVs are superior to those on regular LCD TVs.

Less electricity is utilized by LED chips in LED TVs than by fluorescent lights in LCD TVs. LED TVs use 20–30% less energy than LCD TVs. This translates into lower electricity costs for folks who frequently watch TV.

Prices for LED TVs are greater than those for conventional LCD TVs. However, compared to LCD TVs, LED TVs have a longer lifespan.
