Vision of a Chicken
The eyes of chickens vary from those of humans. The chicken is a four-cone mammal that can see ultraviolet light, red light, blue light, and green light. The human eye can only perceive the red, blue, and green colour spectrum; the chicken can see more visible light. Light duration, intensity, and spectrum all have an impact on chicken development. When it comes to the production and quality of meat and eggs, lighting is crucial.
● The colour blue helps chickens develop later in life by increasing plasma androgens; it also calms birds, reduces their movement while they are being caught, and stops them from being scared, all of which enhance the quality of chicken meat.
● The colour red increases weight and food intake, decreases pecking, stimulates activity, promotes sexual maturity, and enhances egg production.
● Green colour promotes the multiplication of skeletal muscle satellite cells, which accelerates growth at a young age.
Distribution of Light
For both animal welfare and poultry production, an ideal distribution of light is essential. Inadequate lighting may lead to a poor grill distribution, which might result in clustering. The clustering will result in poor bird heat dispersion, increased competition for food and water, and higher heating expenses. Uniform growth, improved animal wellbeing, and a reduction in mortality are all benefits of good light dispersion.
Light Intensity & Photoperiod
Different photoperiods (length of light) and light intensities (amount of light) are needed for each variety of poultry. Depending on the kind of poultry, the photoperiod and light intensity must be modified. Poultry production will benefit from the proper quantity and duration of light.
Shake
In a poultry farm, 100% flicker-free illumination is essential. The main cause of stress for chickens is flicker, which may lead to poor development and appetite, lower laying rates, and higher death rates.
Dimmability
To replicate dawn and sunset, lighting for poultry must be uniformly dimmable.The chickens will get frightened if the lights are abruptly turned on or off.
