A Leyard 4K LED screen has been installed in a movie theatre on the recently constructed roof terrace of the Danish Film Institute (DFI) building in Copenhagen.
The 1,700-square-meter terrace, which also has a restaurant, bar, exhibition space, children's play area and two outdoor 'videotheque' covered booths where patrons can see films on huge touchscreens, is centred around the movie theatre.
The Leyard Luminate Ultra Series 1.5 mm display was selected by the DFI because of its ultra-wide viewing angle, dual power supply, and IP66 weatherproof classification, which make it suitable for outdoor usage.
The 6.5-meter-wide by 2.5-meter-high LED wall has a high-precision seamless splicing cabinet, an all-in-one high-strength frame design, and exceptional colour uniformity and picture quality. A common-cathode drive has a longer lifetime, less heat production, and lower power consumption.
The movie theatre has 127 seats and is protected from the weather by a retractable roof and detachable sides.
"It's designed similarly to an indoor cinema but with loudspeakers built for outdoor use and intelligent sound design to minimise the disturbance to neighbours," explains Christian Dannevang, project manager and head of business development at AVC, the company that completed the installation.
The brightness of the screen is changed when the sun is shining to replicate the atmosphere of an inside movie theatre. Venue employees just need to hit "play," and the sensors will take care of the rest.
"We have the ability to showcase films at a high technical level, with a different display technology than we know from our traditional cinema halls," explains Kenneth Just, manager of the DFI.
Even during the day, we can play films outside thanks to the LED screen. With vistas of the city's rooftops, our visitors are ecstatic during the open-air movies.
