Four Essential Factors to Consider When Acquiring LED Spotlights Part 2

Consideration #3: potency and luminosity

Typically, bulb brightness is perceived in terms of watts; a 60-watt bulb emits more light than a 40-watt bulb.
However, it is important to remember that watts quantify electrical energy input rather than the overall light output.
This method was a valid means of estimating brightness, given most halogen lamps exhibit comparable efficiency.
LED spotlights exhibit much greater efficiency compared to halogen lamps. This indicates that watts is no longer an effective metric for brightness.
...use far greater energy (in watts) than...
to produce an equivalent level of luminous output.
Rather of concentrating on watts consumed, one should prioritise the light output, quantified in lumens.
Uncertain about the required lumens? You can approximate your requirements based on your previous installation prior to transitioning to LEDs.
This may be determined using a straightforward formula:
Lumens = [watts in halogen] × 15
For instance, a 40W halogen bulb may yield an estimated luminosity of 600 lumens by multiplying 40 by 15.
The lumens count is provided within the product specs.

Factor #4: beam angle

Ultimately, it is essential to evaluate the configuration of light emitted by the LED spotlight.
The configuration is referred to as beam angle. The beam angle is defined as the angle at which 50% or more of the light is emitted.
A narrow beam angle concentrates light into a smaller area, hence augmenting the intensity of illumination in that region.
A broad beam angle results in more light dispersion. While you may illuminate a broader region, the light will be "diluted" throughout this bigger expanse, thus diminishing the intensity of lighting on that surface.
Additionally, consider the conical light dispersion of LED spotlights. As the distance from the bulb grows, the dispersion also escalates.
If you own high ceilings, it is advisable to use a narrow beam angle LED spotlight to guarantee that the light effectively reaches its target before scattering.

Additional considerations

We trust our advice were beneficial to you. Ultimately, lighting is frequently a subjective and aesthetic decision, and the most effective evaluation is a visual assessment.
For a substantial project, it is advisable to initially get one or two LED spotlights to evaluate their colour and brightness against your expectations.
If it appears satisfactory, you may proceed with acquiring the remainder!
