You could see a voltage rating pop up again and again when you look for an LED strip light. But do you not know what it means? Can you tell me if 12V or 24V is better? Find out by reading on!

Do you recommend 12V or 24V?
Both 12V and 24V options are typical when selecting an LED strip. Both are considered low voltage illumination, while 12V is the standard. But which one is superior?
There are a lot of variables to consider, but maybe the questions we've provided will help you get closer.
Is there a power supply specification that you currently have?
It may be more prudent to ensure that the new LED strips are compatible with what you currently have, such as 12V batteries or 12V power supply, in case you are utilising them.
That way, you can avoid buying separate power supplies for the LEDs.
Question 2: Is a specific length for the LED strips required?
Each string of 12V LEDs has three lights, while each 24V LED string has six lights. It is possible to trim them to length between strings, however cutting them within a string will result in a knot.
You can cut 12V LED strips every three LEDs and 24V LED strips every six LEDs, according to that.
If your LED strip is 24V and you cut every 6 LEDs, your length possibilities may be 3" instead of 1.5" as they are with 12V, but this depends on the density of your LEDs.
Are you still undecided?
In most cases, when you see a product listed for 12V and 24V, it's because the two voltages and amp combinations are different, but the number of LEDs, power, and light output are all identical.
As an illustration, a 24W/meter LED strip operating at 12V would consume 2.0A/meter of current, whereas the 24V version would use 1.0A/meter. The 24V version typically works better both internally in the LED strip and at the power supply, despite drawing less amperage, even though both versions consume 24W and produce the same amount of light.
This is due to the fact that voltage has no bearing on resistance, which is solely defined by amperage. So, if all else is equal, the 24V alternative, which uses less amperage, will have greater electrical performance.
This is the same reasoning behind the practice of scaling down the voltage that power networks utilise when delivering energy to houses, which is several thousand kilovolts.

So, we think 24V is better than 12V if power supply choice and cuttable length aren't great concerns.
