Today, Samsung Electronics announced that its Outdoor LED Signage XHB Series (P8) has been installed at the Shinsegae Department Store's flagship site in Seoul, South Korea. The project, which was unveiled today at the "2024 Lights Up SEOUL, KOREA" event, will make Myeongdong Square in Seoul the new prime landmark in Korea. It has a breathtaking media lighting show that lights up the centre of Seoul's famous retail area.

"There are countless opportunities for locations like Myeongdong to have new culturally significant elements thanks to our LED displays," said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business. "With this installation, we have the chance to demonstrate in the most significant way possible that our outdoor digital displays are designed to engage, to deliver powerful content, and to last."

Shinsegae Department Store, situated in the Myeongdong Special Tourist Zone Area, is in a unique position as a free outdoor advertising zone that permits large-scale and imaginative displays. Samsung's enormous outdoor LED signage, which is the size of three basketball courts and is 71.8 meters in width by 17.9 meters in height, encircles the building's outside wall and has an anamorphic 8K display.

With an IP66 rating for water and dust protection and UL 48 and UL 746C certifications1 for year-round durability, the 1,285 square metre display is built to withstand extreme weather conditions. With support for HDR10+ technology, the installation is designed to provide rich images and strong contrast while maintaining great visibility and bright colour accuracy. Even in strong sunshine, the display's maximum brightness of 8,000 nits2 guarantees remarkable clarity. Its high 7,680 Hz refresh rate reduces moiré and flicker,3 guaranteeing a steady display that maintains visual clarity even when seen through camera lenses.

Samsung has a successful history of using digital signage at well-known locations throughout the globe. Samsung gave Coex SM Town in South Korea the biggest high-definition LED signage the nation has ever seen, and revolutionary installations at Houston's Minute Maid Park and New York's Citi Field raised the bar for in-stadium displays. With more than 29,800 square feet of LED panels that let spectators see the action from every angle, Samsung set up the biggest scoreboard in professional baseball at Citi Field. Similar to this, Samsung's high-definition LED technology at Minute Maid Park revolutionised the spectator experience by adding a dynamic new main scoreboard and enormous outside displays that were all intended to heighten the game's enthusiasm.

In addition to featuring captivating ads and lively video content, the new installation in Myeongdong will change into a stunning yearly Christmas media façade, bringing a joyous environment to guests.

Shinsegae Square is the new version of Shinsegae's media façade, which has been adored by tourists from all over the world over the previous ten years. This change opens the door for it to become a famous landmark in Seoul, a major centre of K-culture as well as a must-see destination. A representative for Shinsegae said, "We are thrilled to collaborate with Samsung to offer our customers distinctive experiences that combine digital technology and heritage."

As demonstrated by award-winning installations at renowned locations like Inglewood, California's SoFi Stadium, which has the largest LED videoboard ever constructed for sports, and the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, where Samsung erected a 481-foot-long rooftop LED display in the shape of the F1 logo, Samsung's outdoor LED signage is known for its outstanding performance in demanding environments. Samsung continues to set the standard for inspiring and engaging solutions as Myeongdong develops into a popular tourist destination worldwide.

1 Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has certified UL 48 and UL 746C, which attest to the materials' resilience to weather and UV rays as well as their adherence to safety regulations for electric signs.

2 Post-calibration maximum brightness was measured; real results may vary depending on the situation.

3 When repeating patterns, like lines, are photographed, an unwanted visual phenomena known as the moiré effect is created.
