Are LED tube lights physically compatible with my fluorescent fixture?
You have discovered an LED tube light product, but you are uncertain if it is compatible with your fluorescent fixture. What methods can be employed to assess compatibility?
We divide this into two distinct enquiries: (1) Is the fixture physically compatible? and (2) Is the fixture electrically compatible? We can only ensure a safe and reliable installation if the answers to both questions are affirmative.

Methods for Assessing Physical Compatibility
Length of the lamp: The length of the LED tube light must correspond precisely to the space between the lampholders of the fluorescent fixture. If uncertain, you may physically measure the fluorescent fixture for verification. The prevalent T8 4-ft fixtures, for instance, must measure precisely 48 inches between the lampholders.
Lamp terminals: Subsequently, we must ascertain whether the metal contact pins at both extremities of the light are compatible. The simplest method to verify this is to detach an existing light, inspect the pins at its end, and measure the distance between the pins to get the pin specification. The predominant kind for T8 and T12 bulbs is the G13 bipin (0.5 inch / 13 mm apart), while for T5 lamps, it is the G5 bipin (0.2 inch / 5 mm apart).
T8 and T12 lights generally employ the identical G13 bipin. A T8 LED tube light is physically compatible with a T12 fluorescent fixture, and a T12 LED tube light is likewise compatible with a T8 fluorescent fixture, provided they are of same length.
Bear in mind that mere compatibility does not guarantee safe operation.

Compatible with Ballast
In a "ballast-compatible" wiring layout, the fluorescent ballast is retained within the electrical circuit. Provided that the LED tube light and fluorescent ballast are compatible, rewiring is unnecessary. Remove the fluorescent lamps from the fixture and insert the new LED tube lights.
This arrangement is occasionally referred to as UL Type A or "plug and play" compliant.
Direct-Wire, Single-Ended
"Direct-wire" denotes a wiring arrangement in which line voltage wires are directly linked to the LED tube light. Single-ended direct-wire connections supply live and neutral wires to the same set of input terminals at one end of the LED tube light. The opposing end stays disconnected.
This design is occasionally referred to as UL Type B or direct-drive.
Direct-Wire, Double-Ended
Certain direct-wire LED bulbs are engineered for double-ended connections. These lamps necessitate the connection of live and neutral wires to the respective terminals of the LED tube light. Typically, wires may be attached to one or both terminals at each end (shunted lampholders will supply current to both terminals).
