Wall Washing: Lighting Pattern for Home
A vertical surface is uniformly brightened by wall washing. Wall washing emphasises the wall and may be used to highlight an entryway, a fireplace, or a piece of art. A space might look brighter and have a softer, diffuser light thanks to the light that bounces off matte-surfaced walls. For maximum effectiveness, paint walls a bright colour or white. Wall washing may provide the appearance of more space in areas like corridors and small rooms.

3. Fixtures set near to the wall give rough surfaces a grazing appearance. If the texture is appealing, this might be advantageous, but it should be avoided if the wall has surface flaws.
