Standard low- or high-beam headlights may save money by using the new OSLON® Submount PL LEDs, which allow direct installation to the heatsink.
There are two sizes of light emitting area available, allowing for either optimal effectiveness or the best possible compromise between efficacy and brightness.
The OSLON® Submount PL is a drop-in replacement for less bright competitor products and comes in a standard submount size.

Munich, Germany and Premstaetten, Austria (November 9, 2023) -- ams OSRAM (SIX: AMS), a world leader in intelligent sensors and emitters, today introduces the next generation of its well-liked OSLON Submount PL family of LEDs, providing manufacturers of automotive forward lighting modules and products with increased brightness and more design flexibility.

According to internal research, the third-generation OSLON® Submount PL LEDs are around 9% brighter than the second generation. Because of this, automakers may be able to lower the system cost of future headlight designs. It is anticipated that the OSLON® Submount PL family will continue to have a dominant market share in the standard static headlights for entry-level and electric cars with the launch of the new Gen3 products.

The OSLON® Submount PL Gen3 series from Ams OSRAM comes in variations with one of two light emitting area (LEA) choices, allowing headlamp makers to accommodate varying client requirements in a single board layout:

High effectiveness and high brightness are balanced in the (1030 µm)2 LEA option.

The effectiveness of the (1150 µm)2 LEA option is maximized.

"These new LEDs are equally applicable to static headlamp designs, where the light source is mounted directly on the heatsink, eliminating the need for a high-performance PCB, and to standard modules, where the LED is mounted on an open-frame housing," stated Philipp Puchinger, Product Marketing Manager for Automotive Forward Lighting at ams OSRAM. The most recent generation of OSLON® Submount PL LEDs has been introduced in both situations, providing automakers with a path to increased efficiency and reduced system costs.

Outstanding quality and performance

The quality and value features of previous iterations of the OSLON® Submount PL product line are still present in the new LEDs. Because they are provided in precisely defined single-color bins, manufacturers are able to simplify the assembly process and optimize their inventory. Additionally, the LEDs provide a consistent beam pattern with homogenous color-over-angle emission and great thermal stability.

Samples of the OSLON® Submount PL Gen3 products with a (1030µm)2 LEA are now available. Two-chip module KW2 C2LNL3.TK and three-chip module KW3 C3LNL3.TK are the component numbers.

Starting in December 2023, versions with a (1150µm)2 LEA will be available for sampling. The two-chip module, KW2 C2LPL3.TK, and the three-chip module, KW3 C3LPL3.TK, are the part numbers.
