Indoor planting, how to ensure adequate lighting?

Lack of natural light is the biggest obstacle for indoor plant cultivation. Normal lighting fixtures cannot boost photosynthesis, leading plants to grow too fast, weaken, lose color, or have trouble blossoming. Plant growth bulbs provide a unique alternative to sunlight.

Spectrum drives growth

Plant photosynthesis does not use all-bandwidth white light. Plant chlorophyll absorbs blue and red light. Professional plant growth bulbs boost these two spectrum bands. Full-spectrum lights resemble sunlight and are suitable for home living, but red and blue spectral bulbs focus on light efficiency and produce purple-pink light, which is less pleasing. Which spectrum to use depends on the plant species and growth stage.

Application situations determine light bulb selection

Due to its practicality, this bulb has precise planting needs. It can power herb and lettuce plants on dark apartment balconies. It promotes orchid flowering, which requires a constant photoperiod. It can keep indoor seedlings strong and prevent them from becoming thin and weak due to lack of light. Different growth goals demand different illumination spectra and intensities.

Install and Use Correctly

Most plant growth bulbs use the E27 socket and can be attached to table or pendant lamps. Consider illumination distance before using. Generally, keep it 15–50 cm above the plant canopy. Being too close may burn leaves, while being too far may reduce light intensity. To give plants a consistent light cycle, a timer should imitate the natural day-night cycle. It normally takes 12–16 hours per day. The lighting effect depends on precise distance and duration control.

FAQ

Q: Will plant growth bulbs generate a lot of heat?

A: Compared to traditional incandescent bulbs or metal halide lamps, LED plant bulbs generate much less heat. However, heat will still accumulate on the back or base of the bulb, so it is necessary to ensure that the lamp has a good heat dissipation design. Good heat dissipation is the key to ensuring the long lifespan and stable light output of the bulb.

Q: Can it be directly screwed onto the ordinary lamp sockets in the home for use?

A: Most household plant growth bulbs adopt the standard E27 screw design and can be installed directly onto qualified household lamp sockets (such as table lamps, ceiling lamps) like ordinary bulbs. Before installation, please make sure that the lamp socket specifications match and that the power capacity of the lamp is higher than or equal to the power of the bulb.
